Valerie Braunston was born in Edmonton, London, and moved to Bush Hill Park as a young child just before the outbreak of the Second World War. She spent over five years in London during the war, witnessing the resilience of the city during WW2. Finally, she was evacuated in 1944 for a few months but returned home just in time to celebrate VE Day.
